Another Green Blogger Returns To Day Job, Asks 'What's The Point?'

Thinking about sustainability can make a person feel like landfill runoff. Writing about it can suck even worse. Hence, I needed a break, but I'm popping back in to say hello and to share some new ideas, because I've missed you guys and I want to keep writing!

Yesterday my husband said, "We should try to reduce our plastic use in 2020, make that a goal."

I was like, "Um, we did that in 2019. We're good."

See, we buy milk in glass jugs now and make our own yogurt, so no more plastic tubs or gallon jugs are floating around here. Problem solved!

If only if were that easy...

Trying to "convince" people (i.e. me, these days) to think about overflowing landfills and factories burping out air pollution, and then guilting them/us into doing something about it, can really start to grate on a gal's nerves after a while. Whether she's the one doing the preaching or being the receiver of said preaching.

Because the truth is, very few of us are "all green" all the time. We all have our poisons. I have mine. For instance, I buy ordinary shampoo for my hair, not the expensive, earth-friendly stuff. There. I said it.

Besides, people need a break from doomsday climate talk. Life is hard enough to deal with, without all the reminders about how we're destroying the planet. I get that.

We want to hear about fun stuff. Hopeful things. Fantasies and big dreams and good news. And, believe me, I'm painfully aware that The Reductionist just ain't none of those things, usually.

That's why I've disappeared for the last six months. Sorry, y'all. (Or, maybe, you're welcome?) I got busy with my j-o-b over at BlastPoint, which I love, and I've been studying meditation and how to focus on positive things; things happening to me right in this moment right now, in order to keep a pleasant disposition (go figure, it works!). Things that make me feel like me. Authentic me. Not 'social media' me.

And writing about the ugly stuff (toxic air, deregulation, childhood asthma, sex organ deformations caused by chemicals)  was dragging me down.

Besides, I think you all are with me. You guys get this. There's not much more to be said here.

You either are or you aren't buying recycled TP. You either are or you aren't drinking water out of plastic bottles.

One more green blogger isn't going to change anyone's mind.

It's Industry we all have to work on. Collectively.

So, I shall be shifting my vibe here. Changing around some of the furniture. You may notice some changes. Because I'll be creating a new ambiance with the writing I can squeeze in on my free time. I'll be focusing on some of that good-feeling stuff we actually want to read.

I know, I know, it'll be sad to let this go. But this isn't truly goodbye. It's hello. Hello to a whole new version of what tomorrow can bring.

My sincerest, most heartfelt thanks to each of you who've stuck by me this far. Thank you for being here. See you all on the sunnier side. Very soon!

In peace,
Janeen
